Poster Contest

For our next assignment I have decided to create a poster for the "Love Your Body" campaign. Because I am not very familiar with Illustrator, I am planning to do most of the work in Photoshop. I'm also pretty set on the idea of incorporating photography into the project. I'm going to start with photos and play around with them using the different editing techniques, tools, and fonts available in Photoshop.
So what are the actual pictures going to be?
Well, I have a few scattered ideas running around in my head. The first idea is to gift wrap a torso. This would be done to signify that a body should be appreciated and embraced. It's not something to just trash and throw away as so many people unfortunately do by taking poor care of themselves.
Another idea I had was to use the cliche heart. I was thinking about playing around with light (in a heart shape) on the skin. One idea was to have the light on the back of someone's shoulder. Another idea was to have the light on someone's stomach with their hands underneath so that is looks like they are holding it.
As I said, I have many ideas for this project and I hope that we'll have to opportunity to play around with as many as possible. I think that the "Love Your Body" campaign is a good campaign that is undoubtedly a relevant cause in the world today.

PS Merging Assignment

Research Paper Summary

My research topic was on the controversy over whether or not digital art should be considered "real" art (referring to fine art). The definition of fine art says that it is art made mainly for beauty or concept and not for function or utility. That, among other reasons, is why digital art IS real art.
Another reason is that the most of the same skills and techniques are used in digital art as used in fine art such as a sense of balance, color, shading, composition, etc...Digital artists get too much criticism and not enough credit for their work.
I wanted to do this topic because it is something I've never really thought too much about before. I suppose digital art was always just art to me, but I never realized just how much it is criticized simply because computers are involved supposedly making it easier. Also, I am sometimes a fan of digital art and it is something that I would like to try out in the future. In addition, I am very into photography (specifically digital) and some photography (when edited) or photomanipulation is considered digital art.
As I said in my paper, art is basically manipulating material and in this case, the material just happens to be digital.
